Alexander Gurwitsch (08.10.1874 &#8211; 27.07.1954), russischer Biologe und Mediziner, fand bei keimenden Zwiebeln, dass lebende Zellen eine, nach seiner Auffassung, mitogenetische Strahlung (ein sehr schwaches Licht) aussenden. Er glaubte, dass diese Strahlung die Zellteilung ausl\u00f6sen k\u00f6nne. 1954 gelang es den italienischen Astronomen Laura Colli und Ugo Facchini mit Hilfe eines gro\u00dfen Photomultpliers (Restlichtverst\u00e4rker) im Single-Photon-Counting Modus schwache, konstante Lichtemissionen von lebenden Pflanzen nachzuweisen. 1975 gelang dem deutschen Physiker Fritz-Albert Popp (11.05.1938 &#8211; 04.08.2018) der Nachweis der Biophotonen: sie emittieren ein sehr schwaches Licht im Bereich von 200 bis 800 nm.
